Frequently Asked

Q. Where is Gallery Up?

A. Gallery Up is located on the second floor of the Gettys Art Center, at 201 East Main Street in Rock Hill, SC. The Gettys Center previously served as the city's Post Office and Courthouse but is currently home to a collection of art-related offices (web firm Nice Outfit, SC Arts Alliance) and artist studios (Rock Hill Pottery Center, Marge Moody and J. Michael Simpson among others.)

Q. What is Gallery Up?

A. Gallery Up is comprised of an artist run gallery, store and custom frame shop. Up's gallery and retail components provide emerging and established artists the opportunity to exhibit their work in a professional manner.

Q. Who is Gallery Up?

A. Gallery Up is owned by Tamara LaValla and Zan Maddox, partners in the full-service design studio Social Design House. Ben Visser, partner in Social, designed, developed and helps us maintain Gallery Up's home on the web. Gallery Up is managed by local artists Stephanie Jordan and Jessica Johnston along with a handful of wonderful volunteers.

Q. What kind of exhibition space do you have?

A. Our 540 sf gallery space features award-winning work from local and regional photographers, painters, sculptors, printmakers, metal and ceramic artists.

The gallery presents over a half dozen shows each year and is free and open to the public from Monday-Wednesday, 10 am to 5 pm, Thursday from 10 am to 7 pm, Friday from 10 am to 5 pm and on Saturdays by appointment. We are also open during downtown art crawls.

Q. How does buying on Gallery Up work?

A. To buy items, you'll need to create a Gallery Up account (it's free and easy – see the FAQ for details.) You purchase items using whatever payment you specify when checking out via PayPal.

Q. How does the shopping cart work?

A. As you shop around and find items that suit your fancy, add them to your cart. Note: items in your cart are not removed from the site or reserved for you, until you complete the checkout process. The majority of items on Gallery Up are one-of-a-kind and thus tend to sell out quickly, so it's a bit risky to leave items in your cart for too long. Once you've got everything you want, click the Checkout button and follow the onscreen instructions.

Q. Why am I required to register before being able to buy anything?

A. Our feedback system relies on being able to identify the parties involved in every transaction. Your username is the unique identifier which makes this possible.

Q. Is Gallery Up in USD and how do I handle currency conversions?

A. Right now you can only list items in USD on Gallery Up. PayPal (credit card sales) will automatically convert your currency. We have plans to offer built-in currency conversion, but as of right now it doesn't exist.

Q. What is PayPal, how does it work on Gallery Up, and how do I buy items with it?

A. Gallery Up facilitates payments through a third-party service called PayPal™. Sellers must register a Business or Premier account with PayPal, which lets buyers pay securely using their credit card. The buyer does not have to be a member of this service in order to submit a payment.
